Government Spending Cuts Impact the Disabled in Florida

While we understand that the entire nation is in economic turmoil, it is hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel when money to help the disabled in Florida keeps decreasing.

Even before the current economic crisis, Florida was low on the list of states that went the extra mile to help the disabled.  Waits for disability claims were not months but years, leaving many without the resources to feel and house their families as they attempt to deal with their disability.

With government spending on programs that help the disabled at an all time low most are forced to make impossible decisions such as which crucial service they want to lose or where they will find care and shelter when their group home closes.

Already six Florida group homes are slated to close and many teeter on the edge.  Several group homes and day centers have narrowly missed closing, due in part to the generosity of charitable donations.  However, donations are drying up as nearly every American finds themselves with less money at the end of each month.
