Half of Americans Suffer Mental Health Problems at Some Point in Life

In a report from All Headline News, half of Americans can expect to suffer a form of mental health problem at some point in life. Severe mental health issues could lead to the inability to work and a need for Social Security disability benefits.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in the year 2010, 25% of adults in the U.S. indicated they had suffered from a mental illness.
In 2009, about 5% of the population had suffered some form of mental illness.

With statistics rising, it's not unlikely to see half of the population at some point in their life need help for mental illness. The data collected from the CDC also revealed that 8.4 million people had thought of suicide in the past year and that 2.2 million made actual plans. There were also 1 million attempts at suicide.

However, some doctors believe that the figures could be higher, with many cases not being reported. This is oftentimes the result of individuals not wanting to admit to their mental health issue and therefore, not seeking help.

When a mental health problem becomes severe, it could be disabling. You could qualify to receive Social Security disability benefits. If you would like to know if you're eligible to receive disability benefits, then you should call a Georgia Social Security disability lawyer as soon as possible.
