In the past year the
VA has sent letters out to over 14,000 VA hospital patients. It seems that
VA hospitals in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee had performed medical procedures such as colonoscopies, with improperly cleaned medical equipment. This inexcusable error has potentially exposed all of the 14,000 veterans to HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
Did you receive one of these letters? If so it is important that you get
blood work done to ensure that you have not had exposure to
HIV, hepatitis B or
hepatitis C. There are effective treatments and ways to manage these conditions and early detection is often key.
