Heart Bypass Survival May Depend on Blood Type

According to a report from Medicine Net, a patient's chance of survival after heart bypass may depend on their blood type. When a cardiovascular condition prevents you from working for a long period of time, your income may be offset with long-term disability benefits.

Researchers from Duke University Medical Center have found that patients with a blood type of AB are 20% less likely to die after undergoing heart bypass surgery. This is in comparison to those patients with blood types A, B, or O.

Those with type AB blood may have higher levels of 2 particular proteins: von Willebrand factor and Factor VIII. Therefore, researchers plan on looking into whether or not boosting these levels may help patients with other blood types.

The most common blood type amongst people is type O; therefore, doctors should be aware of the increased risk for blood transfusions and bleeding after heart bypass surgery.

At this time the findings are considered to be preliminary. Experts indicate that until they are published in a peer-reviewed medical journal, these results shouldn't be taken as final.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your eligibility for long-term disability benefits, then you may need to seek legal counsel. Getting help from a Miami long-term disability lawyer can help you learn what your rights are.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
