Heart Risks from Clogged Arteries May Differ between Men and Women

According to USA Today, heart risks from clogged arteries may differ between men and women. Heart conditions that result in lengthy treatment and recovery could entitle you to receive long-term disability benefits.

A new study finds that when women have an extensive amount of coronary plaque buildup and significant hardening of the arteries, their risk of suffering a major cardiac event was greater than men.

However, men who have non-calcified fatty deposits built up deep in the arteries’ walls are at a higher risk for heart attack or needing coronary bypass surgery. Researchers see this as an important step in realizing the differences between men and women when it comes to clogged arteries.

While the reasons for the differences aren’t clear, they do note that the size of blood vessels differ, with women’s being smaller. They also believe the way plaque is deposited into men and women is distinct.

Information such as this may be able to help doctors in finding treatments that are individualized for patients, taking into account their gender.

To learn if you qualify for disability benefits or to receive help when your claim has been denied, you should speak with a Georgia long-term disability lawyer. He or she can assist you with filing your initial application or seeking an appeal.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don’t make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you’ve been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
