High Use of Antibiotics May Increase Risk of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

According to a report from Fox News Health, a high use of antibiotics may increase the risk of developing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). When you suffer from a debilitating condition that causes you to be absent at work for an extended period of time, then you could be eligible to receive long-term disability benefits.

A new study reveals that bacteria in the intestines may be disturbed with large quantities of antibiotics. One of the co-authors of the study indicates that it's not the direct result of the antibiotic but it's the changes in the body that result from using them.

Antibiotics have been linked to higher incidences of Crohn's disease (50% increased risk) and ulcerative colitis.
Both of these conditions are forms of IBD, which can lead to problems such as diarrhea, severe pain, and weight loss.

Medical experts aren't discouraging the use of antibiotics, as they're very beneficial in treating a variety of conditions; however, this latest study does bring awareness to the potential risk of taking higher amounts of antiobiotics.
