Home Base Program Helps Veterans

May 26, 2010 - One major problem with today's veterans is their refusal to seek out needed help. The fact is there are many suffering veterans out there in desperate need of help and there are many organizations willing to offer that help. It is just a matter of getting the two together.

The Home Base Program's outreach coordinators are trying to get the word out about new services available to veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Specifically, to those veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

The Home Base Program is a conglomeration of the Red Sex Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital. The program is comprised of clinicians and specialists whose goal is to offer veterans both counseling at the individual level as well as rehabilitation services. The program offers services that cannot be found anywhere else:

  • Guidance and support for children of parents being deployed;
  • Community health providers education; and
  • General injury awareness.

The program also brings together top-notch scientists and engineers to research TBIs and PTSD. So far their results have generated new imaging technology to help isolate each disease, which will aid in individual treatment.

While the program focuses on young veterans, any veteran seeking treatment will be helped regardless if they have insurance or not. The program has a good working relationship with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and appeals to a good number of veterans who do not want to go to the VA for help.

The Home Base Program offers exceptional services and partnering with the Red Sox really helps to spread the word of their existence and services. Massachusetts General Hospital allows the program to provide the best care possible.
