If you have a long-term disability policy you should apply for Social Security Disability if you can no longer sustain gainful employment.

My firm represents disabled individuals in Broward County, Florida. Based on our findings,it is important to apply for Social Security Disability while you are either receiving long-term disability benefits or you are applying for long-term disability benefits if you cannot sustain gainful employment. The reason is that threashold for proving Social Security Disability is much greater than the requirements set forth in a long-term disability policy. Therefore, if you are awarded Social Security Disability benefits it will be much easier for you to prove to your private insurance carrier that you are disabled.
