Increased Risk of Crohn’s Disease with Regular Use of Aspirin

The University of East Anglia has released a study that indicates there is an increased risk of developing Crohn's disease with regular use of aspirin
. The study showed that if aspirin was taken for a year or more on a regular basis, the odds were increased of suffering from this condition. In fact, people were 5 times more likely to develop it.

Those who participated in the study were healthy individuals. After taking the aspirin on a regular basis for more than a year, a small number of the participants developed Crohn's disease. In addition, this study indicated that there was no risk in taking aspirin and developing ulcerative colitis, which is a similar condition to Crohn's disease.

About 500,000 people in the United States are affected by Crohn's Disease
. This condition causes inflammation and/or swelling in the digestive system. It is a serious and sometimes debilitating disease that can also lead to bowel cancer.

Under Social Security Administration's listing of impairments, inflammatory bowel disease is listed as a disabling condition. It includes but is not limited to Crohn's disease. If you or someone you love suffers from Crohn's disease, you may be eligible to receive Social Security disability benefits. A Social Security disability lawyer can help you determine eligibility.
