Individuals with Psoriasis May Likely Develop Heart Disease

In a report from Medline Plus, individuals with psoriasis may be more likely to develop heart disease. When an individual is not able to work for a long period of time due to treatment and recovery of a severe health condition, long-term disability benefits may be available.

A new study finds that compared to those without the skin condition, those with psoriasis are at a greater risk of clogged arteries, known as coronary artery disease (CAD). In fact, 84% of the patients in the study with psoriasis had CAD. The findings also suggest that the longer an individual has psoriasis, the higher the risk of heart problems.

This is prompting some medical experts to suggest that patients with the skin condition analyze their risk factors for heart disease. Some of those risk factors include obesity, high blood glucose levels, smokers, elevated blood pressure, and cholesterol.

Psoriasis affects about 7.5 million people in the U.S,
according to the National Psoriasis Foundation. With the potential risk of heart disease, this should raise awareness to those who have the skin condition.

Whether your claim for disability benefits was denied or you need assistance in filing your initial application, you may benefit from legal counsel. Get help from a Plantation long-term disability attorney to learn what your rights are.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don’t make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.
