Iowa Offers Reduced Phone Services to SSI Recipients

Supplemental Security Income provides critical financial support for low-income and disabled individuals who often rely on the program as their sole source of income. Thankfully, some businesses and regional governments provide other benefits for SSI-recipients who might be in need of additional financial assistance.

TMCnews
reports that Iowa-area residents who rely on SSI can now participate in a program initiated by Iowa Utilities Board to offer reduced prices on telephone service. The program is called Lifeline/Link-Up and lowers connection fees to either half-off or $30 off. It also allows new customers to pay these charges late without interest.

To qualify, you should be participating in SSI, Medicaid, the National School Lunch Program, Federal Public Housing Assistance Program, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and/or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families Program. You may also qualify if you meet the income requirements, but it is often easier to show eligibility by showing proof of enrollment in any of these programs rather than pay stubs.

To apply, you will need to fill out an application and demonstrate that you are enrolled in any of the above programs.

If you or your loved one are suffering from a severe physical or mental disability, you should contact a Social Security Disability lawyer immediately to learn about your rights and determine eligibility. The process of securing Social Security Disability Insurance benefits and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can be difficult and overwhelming. Don't go it alone!
