Unemployment is one of the biggest problems U.S. veterans and veterans with disabilities returning from deployments are facing; however, according to an article on PR Newswire, over the next year, 2012 unemployed veterans will be given new jobs “within the U.S. ground transportation industry.”
The transportation industry as a whole is in need of approximately 400,000 entry level truck drivers due to an increase in the amount of freight hauled over about the last 2 years. In response to that need, CDL truck driving school has committed to hiring 2012 U.S. veterans over the next year. The school and their hiring partners, who include several national trucking companies, have more than 10,000 positions for new drivers.
Changes in how the Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits can be used have put veterans in a very positive position, given this opportunity. Educational benefits can now be used outside college campuses, and can instead be used at vocational schools, such as truck driving schools. Therefore, eligible U.S. veterans can use their educational benefits to be trained and licensed in a fast growing field almost begging for qualified employees.
The jobs and the funding is available, so Interested veterans should take advantage of this opportunity as soon as possible. Training, licensing, and certifying can all be done within 30 days.
