Life-Saving Measures Proposed for Sufferers of DVT

If you meet the Social Security Administration's criteria for a medical impairment that has caused you to become disabled, you may be eligible to receive Social Security disability benefits. This includes certain types of cardiovascular conditions.

According to a report from the Doctor's Lounge, new guidelines on blood clot treatment have been issued by the American Heart Association (AHA). The AHA wants doctors to implement more aggressive treatment for individuals who have deep vein thrombosis.

Deep vein thrombosis is one of the most serious and life-threatening types of blood clots from which a person can suffer. They form in the leg's deep veins and can easily break loose, traveling to the lungs. This could result in a fatal condition known as pulmonary embolism.

The new AHA guidelines state that not only do patients need more blood thinners but they should also be treated with drugs that break up the clots. Additionally, catheters should be inserted into the blood vessels in order to open them up.

In some cases, a patient may also have to undergo surgery where the blood clots are removed and filters are inserted into the vein so that new clots don't travel to the lungs.

If you are suffering from a severe mental or physical condition that prevents you from working, a Social Security disability attorney in South Florida can help you file your initial application or appeal a denied claim for Social Security disability benefits.
