Link Found Between 5 Genes and Deadly Form of Prostate Cancer

According to a report from Medline, a link has been found between 5 genes and a deadly form of prostate cancer. If you've been diagnosed with a severe medical condition that's expected to last at least a year or is expected to end in death, then you could be eligible to receive Social Security disability benefits.

Researchers from the United States and Sweden have come upon a link between 5 genetic mutations that are inherited and an aggressive, fatal form of prostate cancer.

In fact, they found that those patients who had at least 4 of the 5 genes had a 50% increased risk of dying from prostate cancer, in comparison to those patients who had 2 or less of the genes.

With this discovery is the hope that one day a test can be given to patients to determine if they carry these genes, so the risk for developing prostate cancer can become known. This could lead to earlier, improved care for patients.

Doctors would be able to aggressively treat the prostate cancer,
which is something that continues to be a problem with patients. Too many patients are receiving unnecessary treatment, which can lead to serious side effects such as impotence and urinary incontinence.
