Longer Life Span When High Blood Pressure is Treated for Hypertension

Based on a report from Health Finder, the life span for individuals suffering from hypertension could be increased by treating high blood pressure. When a heart condition has caused you to be unable to work for several months, you may be eligible to receive long-term disability benefits.

A new study suggests that when high blood pressure is controlled, it could actually add years to an individual’s life. Specifically, it was found that those who were taking blood pressure medication for more than 4 years reduced their risk of death over a 20-year period.

While the treatment of blood pressure can reduce the chance of a severe cardiovascular event, this is the first time that researchers have been able to show that it could also prolong someone’s life. The earlier treatment begins, the better the outcome.

The study found that for every month of treatment, an extra day of life was given to the patient. This is in addition to reducing the risk of death.

Researchers do indicate that this study was done on individuals over a 3- to 5-year period. Life expectancy beyond that wasn’t studied.

There are about 76 million adults in the United States who have hypertension. Detecting, treating, and controlling this potentially serious medical condition is important. Seek help from a Fort Lauderdale long-term disability attorney if you have questions or concerns about your eligibility for benefits or if your claim was denied.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don’t make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you’ve been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
