Lung Cancer Risk May Be Lowered with Diabetes Drugs

Lung cancer can become a disabling medical condition. This may lead an individual to seek Social Security disability benefits if the condition is severe enough that it qualifies.

Researchers recently presented some findings at the American College of Chest Physicians' annual meeting which indicates that the risk of lung cancer may be lowered with diabetes drugs.

Not only does the research indicate the prevention of lung cancer but that these drugs may also help to contain it.

Millions of people in the United States use Avandia or Actos to treat diabetes, however, they may be helpful to those who smoke and are at a higher risk of developing cancer or those who already have tobacco-related lung cancer.

The researchers' study demonstrated that patients who took diabetes medication for a longer period of time were at a greater advantage. Yet they are not ready to begin recommending some of these popular diabetic medications.

Before that can happen, there must be some direct studies done, along with verifying the safety of these drugs to those who are not diabetic. As it stands, both Avandia and Actos do have cardiovascular risk factors.

The diagnosis of lung cancer may leave you wondering how you are going to take care of your family. If you suffer from a severe medical condition that leaves you permanently disabled, a Social Security disability lawyer can help you determine if you qualify for benefits.

When you are interviewing Social Security Disability attorneys ask critical questions, like: how many Social Security Disability hearings do you have per month; do you understand the SSA's POMS (the manual Social Security employees use to process claims); and, do you understand the date last insured and how it affects my disability onset date?
