Many Type 1 Diabetics Avoid Disabling Complications of Disease

Acquiring long-term disability benefits can be a challenge. If you have been diagnosed with a disabling condition and have been denied disability benefits, a Miami long-term disability attorney can help.

According to a report from the Doctor's Lounge, though type 1 diabetes is associated with many troubling complications, not every diabetic is destined to experience additional medical issues.

A new report shows that when medical researchers tracked a group of type 1 diabetics for 50 years, many of them never suffered from complications commonly associated with type 1 diabetes such as heart disease, eye problems or kidney disease.

Specifically the study found a percentage of people didn't develop the following complications:

  • 43% - eye problems;
  • 87% - kidney disease;
  • 40% - nerve damage; and
  • 50% - cardiovascular disease.

Researchers plan to look into how these patients were able to bypass many of the common complications associated with having type 1 diabetes.

While type 1 diabetes is the rarer type of diabetes to acquire, it can still lead to additional medical conditions. While maintaining proper blood sugar levels is helpful, it can be a challenge to do so without suffering hypoglycemia (blood sugar levels that are too low).

If your medical condition has caused you to stop working, you should consult with a Miami long-term disability attorney who can help determine if you are eligible for disability benefits.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve. When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you to cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
