March Is National Kidney Month

The Social Security Administration provides Social Security disability benefits to individuals who are disabled and unable to work to support themselves. If you meet the criteria of a medical condition that falls under the listing of impairments, you may be entitled to these disability benefits.

March is National Kidney Month and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is raising awareness of the importance in taking care of your kidneys.

Many people do not know that kidney disease and heart disease are inter-related. Having one of the ailments increases a person's risk of developing the other. This is why it's important that kidney and heart health guidelines are both followed.

According to NIH, there are more than 20 million adults in the U.S. with chronic kidney disease and 16.3 million with heart disease. Additionally, there are more than 7.1 million adults who have both.

The NIH says the following are ways to take care of your kidneys:

  • if you have diabetes, high blood pressure or a family of history of kidney failure, get tested for kidney disease;
  • investigate treatment options for kidney disease; and
  • replace salt with sodium-free seasonings.

If you have been diagnosed with a condition that has left you disabled and unable to engage in substantial gainful activity, you should immediately consult with a Social Security disability attorney. An attorney can help you file for benefits or appeal your claim if you have been denied disability benefits.

Filing for Social Security disability benefits is complicated and time-consuming, but at LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A., our team of disability attorneys is ready for the challenge.
