January 28, 2011 -The Orlando Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center will open at the end of this year. When it does, it will open its doors to a brand new medical simulation center. The VA is going to use the Orlando VA medical center to do more medical simulation training. Clinicians will be able to train for intricate and difficult procedures in real-life mock settings. The training will end up saving lives because the clinicians will be better trained and more familiar with complex situations.
The Medical Simulation Center for Excellence will be the nation's leading center for simulated medical learning environments. It will also serve as the nation's focal point as an advanced research network. The center will be known as SimLEARN and will be a carbon copy of conditions and amenities found in most hospitals, including:
Not only will individual doctors be able to tighten up their skills at the center, there will be simulated training for entire surgical teams. Simulations will be created where the entire team must work together toward a single task.
The technology in the center will, of course, be state of the art, and include virtual reality servers. There will also be a control room, video recording, and playback available.
