Men at Higher Risk of Mild Cognitive Impairment

In a report from the Doctor’s Lounge, men are at a higher risk of mild cognitive impairment. If a severe mental or physical condition has resulted in disability, you may be eligible to receive Social Security disability benefits.

Mild cognitive impairment oftentimes is a precursor to Alzheimer’s
disease. It is characterized by mild problems with thinking and memory.

A new study finds that men are at a greater risk of mild cognitive impairment than women. In fact, the risk is as much as 40% higher.

The study also finds that education plays a role. The risk is found to be increased with less education. When men didn’t receive a college education, there was a higher risk of mild problems with thinking, not memory.

Marital status also appears to play a role, with those who are single, divorced or widowed at a higher risk than those who are married.

Some attribute these findings to the fact that men often develop risk factors for dementia at an earlier age than women. Some of those risk factors include diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.

To learn what your rights are and if you are entitled to disability benefits, you should seek legal counsel. Seek assistance from a Miami-Dade County SSD attorney to evaluate your case.
