Metabolic Syndrome Victims Have Increased Risk of Kidney Disease

According to the Doctor's Lounge, individuals with metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of kidney disease. When complications from a health condition lead to you missing work, then you could be eligible to receive long-term disability benefits.

Metabolic syndrome is a condition in which there are 3 or more of the following health problems afflicting an individual.

  • high fatty acid levels;
  • high blood pressure;
  • excess abdominal fat;
  • high blood sugar; and
  • elevated cholesterol.

While previous research has shown that those with metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and early death, now a new study finds that kidney disease is yet another risk.

Researchers found a 55% increase in the risk, but most especially with those who already have reduced kidney function.
However, individuals can reduce their risk of metabolic syndrome and kidney disease by changing their eating habits, exercising and lowering their elevated levels of cholesterol, blood pressure, and sugar.

When you have been diagnosed with a severe health condition that prevents you from working, then disability benefits can help to offset your lost income. You should consult with a Broward County long-term disability lawyer to discuss your case and determine if you qualify for these benefits.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you to cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
