The Miami Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center has had its share of problems, which not too long ago resulted in the head of the hospital being replaced. Despite those issues, however, veterans with disabilities and those without both generally favor the treatment they receive at the Miami VA, according to a recent article in The Op-Ed News.
A recent random survey asked veterans to rate the hospital on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest score possible. The overall ranking was 9.2, with a single person rating the care they received as low as a 6, and almost 50% of respondents giving the hospital perfect ratings. None of the people responding to the survey claimed to be part of the 3,000 veterans unwittingly exposed to dirty colonoscopy equipment.
Overall, veterans celebrated the “professionalism and the attitude[s]” of the medical staff. The one overarching complaint was the speed of service, but respondents also stated the VA did make “allowances for overcrowding” when it happens.
You don’t often hear of patients praising a VA medical center for its type of health care and most veterans need specific and immediate treatment for severe conditions. When veteran’s medical care is delayed or not properly performed it can cause more damage, which is why veterans should pursue disability benefits.
