March 31, 2011 - The Miami Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System (VAHCS) recently cut the ribbon at their facility officially launching "The TV Replacement Project." Ceremony attendees ranged from Grammy winners to Veterans Support Organization (VSO) members. The event kicked off the VA's annual National Salute to Veteran Patients Week.
The VSO has been a long-time supporter of the Miami VA Health Care System, and has been very involved in helping however they can. The VSO and a number of other organizations joined together to donate $14,000 to "The TV Replacement Project." The project is a completely local enterprise designed to fill a very particular Miami VAHCS void, and one that is very important to many veteran-patients.
Thirty bedside televisions with moveable arms were needed in a newly renovated ward. The donated money was used to buy the televisions, which were then installed in patient rooms. When recuperating in a hospital, any distraction is a good thing, and televisions fill that role very well.
The majority of the veterans convalescing at the Miami VAHCS are there for extended periods of time, so televisions serve as their lifelines to the outside world. Being able to keep abreast of outside events is very important to many of the patients, and the VSO takes great pride in being able to help provide veteran-patients with something they enjoy so much.
Soldiers can return home with a number of conditions, injuries, and aggravated preexisting conditions. If you believe you have a service-connected physical or psychological injury you may be entitled to Veterans’ Disability Compensation.
