Previous research has shown some benefits to eating chocolate but a new study, as reported in the Doctor's Lounge, suggests regular consumption of chocolate could reduce the risk of heart disease. Heart disease could lead to complications and an inability to work for a period of time. This could qualify you for long-term disability benefits.
The latest study involved over 100,000 people and it showed that the risk of heart disease was cut by one-third when chocolate was eaten on a regular basis; however, the amount of chocolate that could be regularly consumed is still in question.
The type of chocolate eaten is also taken into consideration, since those in the study consumed an assortment from white, milk, or dark.
Heart disease risk was found to be reduced by as much as 37%. The study also showed the risk of stroke to be reduced by 29% and diabetes by 31%; however, there was no effect on those with a risk of heart failure.
While the reduced risk of heart disease might be a benefit, chocolate lovers should also be aware of the sugar and fat content which could be a detriment to their health.
