Moderate Drinking May Raise the Risk of Breast Cancer

According to a report from CNN Health, moderate drinking may raise the risk of breast cancer. When cancer of any type leads to disability, then you may be able to offset your lost income with Social Security disability benefits.

Research indicates that even 3 to 6 glasses of wine per week raised the risk of breast cancer. Furthermore, the more alcohol consumed, the higher the risk.

The study points out however, that this is based on a lifetime of consumption. So the risk may be related to drinking over a long period of time, as opposed to how much a woman drank in a specified period of time.

The National Institutes of Health found that for every 3.5 ounces of alcohol consumed per day, the risk went up 10%. Therefore, women who consumed 3 to 6 glasses of wine every week have a 1.15 times increased risk of developing breast cancer in comparison to women who don't drink.

Additionally, the risk was found to be the same no matter what type of alcohol was consumed, including beer and liquor. On the contrary, moderate drinking has also been linked to a decreased risk of heart disease. Therefore, individuals should weigh in the risks and benefits of drinking.
