More Teens and Young Adults Are Experiencing Strokes

The Doctor's Lounge reports that more teens and young adults are experiencing strokes, according to a new government report. Many times a stroke is accompanied by medical complications that may prevent you from returning to work for an extended period of time. You could be entitled to receive long-term disability benefits which can help to offset your lost income.

According to researchers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), between the years 1995 and 2008, the number of people between the ages of 15 and 44 who are hospitalized as a result of a stroke has increased by more than a third.

It is believed that the increase could be due to the larger number of young people developing health problems such as diabetes or high blood pressure; however, other risk factors for a stroke, such as smoking and obesity, may also be contributing.

The same risk factors that exist for adults are the same for teens and young adults; therefore, living a healthy lifestyle early on could prevent not only strokes but other serious health conditions.

To learn if you qualify for long-term disability benefits, you should speak with a lawyer. A Fort Lauderdale long-term disability lawyer can evaluate your case to determine eligibility.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
