More Than 200,000 Suffer Cardiac Arrest Annually in U.S.

In a report from Medline Plus, every year in the U.S. more than 200,000 people suffer cardiac arrest in a hospital. Social Security disability benefits could be available if your health condition falls under SSA's listing of impairments and meets the criteria. This can help to offset lost income when you're no longer able to work.

While these statistics are startling enough, these same researchers indicate that the rate of cardiac arrest in a hospital could be climbing; however, the somewhat good news is the rate of survival is better when this occurs in a hospital.

In other settings, the chance of survival is less than 10% but if the individual experiences sudden cardiac arrest in a hospital they have a 21% chance of survival.

Despite this, the researcher's from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, who conducted this study, do indicate that more should be done in order to improve an individual's chance of survival. Some of the ways this can be done include improved patient monitoring, following resuscitation guidelines and administering both CPR and defibrillation.

Heart problems can lead to an individual being unable to function on a daily basis, including an inability to work. If you'd like to know if you're eligible to receive disability benefits, then you should speak with a Georgia Social Security disability lawyer about your case.
