April 7, 2010 - Veterans now have access to their personal medical records through secured access via the Charles George Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Asheville, NC. My HealtheVet has been in operation since 2003 and has now been upgraded to include enhanced access to information about health records and prescriptions.
Through a 10 minute process, any veteran can upgrade their account at their local VA health care facility through a website. The new process is in response to the younger and more computer savvy generation requiring VA assistance as well as to satisfy other veterans requesting more information through the My HealtheVet website.
The upgrades allow veterans to see the names of their prescriptions online as opposed to just the RX numbers, and gain access to commonly needed forms. Beyond that, veterans will presently or in the future be able to:
They system provides veterans with information on health benefits as well as health care. In order to sign up, veterans must watch a 10-minute video over the My HealtheVet website or at a local VA facility. Veterans will then be given protected access to the entire volume of their medical records.
There are 117,000 veterans being serviced by the Charles George VA Medical Center. Upgrading the My HealtheVet website and offering secured access to medical records is only one step in continuing to provide exceptional service to area veterans.
