PeopleScout announced a new effort to get at least 10,000 U.S. veterans placed in new jobs by the end of 2012.
Partnering with 23 national companies, such as Burger King and Fifth Third Bank, the Veteran Hiring Initiative is working with many organizations to promote the hiring of veterans.
PeopleScout’s own parent company, SeatonCorp, has already committed to helping the effort by hiring 2,000 veterans this year.
The
companies participating in the Veteran Hiring Initiative hired a combined 8,000 veterans in 2011 and hopes are high to surpass these numbers in the coming months. Last year
PeopleScout organized 100 job fairs for veterans across the U.S., which resulted in over 7,300 veterans being hired.
Veteran unemployment rates continue to be an issue with a 13% unemployment rate – 5% higher than the national average. The rate is even worse for young veterans recently returned from the battlefield.
Veterans 24 years old and younger have a 30% unemployment rate, blamed mostly on a lack of retraining programs for veterans returning to civilian life.
Disabled veterans may have an especially difficult time finding employment as they must struggle with coping with a disabling condition as well as adjusting to life out of combat.
