June 3, 2010 - Many veterans returning to the states have difficulty transitioning back into their civilian life. Adjusting to a new civilian lifestyle is not the same as adjusting to a non-military lifestyle. There is no doubt veterans are offered hundreds of different programs and benefits but being able to easily locate and navigate them is something else.
Generally, the more programs made available to veterans, the better off those veterans are. The flip side of more programs becoming available is it makes it more difficult for veterans to locate programs best suited to their specific needs. The more information becomes available, the more there is to sift through to look for the right program and determine eligibility requirements. This is a very double edged sword.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), The Department of Defense (DoD), and the Department of Labor (DoL) all came together to form the National Resource Directory (NRD). The NRD connects veteran communities with helpful resources. Essentially the NRD is an online index allowing access to over 10,000 programs on varying levels.
The NRD uses a keyword search which is organized by relevance. People using the site can search by a specific word, by topic, and popularity, depending on their needs. The site itself is broken into 9 separate subject areas which will make browsing for specific programs and benefits easier than ever before.
The NRD was designed to benefit veterans and to make their search for help as easy as possible. Simply, the NRD is efficient and easy to use and will most definitely help veterans in need stay connected so that they can help each other when they need it most.
Soldiers can return home with a number of conditions, injuries, and aggravated preexisting conditions. If you believe you have a service-connected physical or psychological injury you may be entitled to Veterans’ Disability Compensation.
