The National Veterans Tee Tournament is scheduled to take place in the Iowa City area this week.
The golf and bowling tournament for disabled veterans began in 1994 in Illinois with 36 participants from only six Midwestern states. This year's tournament is expected to enlist more than 100 participants from across the nation.
Events will be held at golf courses around Iowa City, and at a bowling alley in the area. More than 400 volunteers from the nearest VA hospital are expected to help out with coordinating activities.
Men and women veterans with disabilities such as mobility impairments and blindness are common to many of the veterans. Amputees and wheelchair-bound vets also participate in what has become an official VA rehabilitation program.
