According to a report in the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a new central database could lead to improved diagnosis and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI). When you've suffered a severe injury or illness and it has caused you to be unable to work, then you could qualify to receive Social Security disability benefits.
The new database, the Federal Interagency Traumatic Brain Injury Research (FITBIR), is designed to speed up the process in determining which types of research on diagnosis and treatment has been the most effective.
Benefits of New Central Database on TBI
The new database will allow for comparisons of studies and a way to link any databases with information on TBI.
According to the NIH, approximately 1.7 million people in the U.S. suffer a TBI each year. The ability to effectively treat this condition is hampered with so many different options out there; however, this database will create a way to find better results in a shorter amount of time.
