New Experimental Drug Could Better Treat Atrial Fibrillation

In a report from the Doctor's Lounge, a new experimental drug could be better in treating atrial fibrillation then Warfarin (Coumadin). If you're suffering from a severe heart condition that'll prevent you from working for several weeks or months, then you could be entitled to long-term disability benefits.

Warfarin, or Coumadin, is commonly prescribed to patients who have atrial fibrillation, an abnormal heart rhythm condition. Warfarin helps prevent blood clots from forming, which could then lead to a stroke.

Warfarin, or Coumadin, is commonly prescribed to patients who have atrial fibrillation, an abnormal heart rhythm condition. Warfarin helps prevent blood clots from forming, which could then lead to a stroke.

However, Warfarin requires careful monitoring, with the potential for episodes of severe bleeding
(including in the brain, which can be fatal). Considering this, patients find that it can interfere with their quality of life, with having to see their doctor on a monthly basis.

A new experimental drug, apixaban, has the potential to replace Warfarin. One of the biggest advantages is that it doesn't require such close monitoring. There's also less need to make adjustments to this medication and fewer negative interactions with foods or other drugs.

With Warfarin being affordable, it's unclear how much this new drug would cost. New drugs tend to be more expensive; however, with less doctor visits it could help to offset the expense.

Further testing will be required to determine the safety and effectiveness of apixaban. Speak to a South Florida long-term disability lawyer if you have questions on eligibility for disability benefits.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
