New Guidelines May Help Those with Genetic Heart Disease Live Better

According to a report from Drug Information Online, new guidelines have been issued for those with genetic heart disease. When a severe cardiovascular condition interferes with your ability to work, then you may qualify for long-term disability benefits.

The first science-based guideline for detecting and treating hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) indicates that most individuals will be able to live a full, normal life.
In fact, many don’t experience any problems with the disease.

HCM is the most common type of genetic heart disease. It can cause restricted blood flow, irregular heartbeats, and sudden cardiac death. Yet, according to new guidelines, this isn’t the case for most patients.

In fact, better treatments are now available which can help individuals properly manage their condition. Beta- and calcium-channel blockers are commonly prescribed medications. If those don’t work, patients can undergo a catheter-based procedure or other type of surgery (such as an implantable defibrillator).

The guidelines indicate that patients with HCM should receive a thorough evaluation for serious risk factors and if necessary, genetic testing and/or counseling.

The guidelines also state that those with HCM shouldn’t participate in intense recreational activities and sports; however, low-intensity sports and activities are fine.

When you aren’t able to work for an extended period of time, due to a severe medical condition then you may be wondering what options are available. A
Miami long-term disability lawyer can determine if you qualify for disability benefits.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don’t make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you’ve been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
