New Hormone Marker May Indicate Risk of Kidney Failure and Death

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a new hormone marker has been identified that may indicate the risk of kidney failure and death. A life-threatening medical condition may leave you concerned about how you will financially care for your family. You may be entitled to receive Social Security disability benefits, if it falls under SSA's listing of impairments.

This hormone marker is found to regulate phosphate, which is linked to kidney failure in patients with chronic kidney disease. Even patients who are in the earlier stage of kidney disease are at an increased risk of kidney failure as much as 2 times higher, with elevations in this hormone marker.

The good news is that there is medication to help lower levels. Therefore, by detecting elevations early on, it could potentially reduce the risk of kidney failure and death. Further research will need to be conducted in randomized clinical trials.

With approximately 23 million adults in the United States having chronic kidney disease, this could potentially eliminate the need for dialysis and other medical costs associated with kidney failure.

You should speak with a South Florida Social Security disability lawyer if you have questions concerning your eligibility for disability benefits.
