New Online Application May Give Veterans Faster Access to VA Health Care

The new online Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care application could be available this spring to help speed up the claim filing process and reduce some of the backlog.

As service members return from deployment, the new online application is slated to help them establish access to the VA health care system as soon as possible and may help minimize the wait time for veterans’ disability benefits. The VA Form 1010EZ will be able to be filed electronically at demobilization sites across the U.S.

The application is currently used to enroll veterans in the VA health care system, which is a critical step in obtaining a disability rating for your application for veterans’ disability benefits. By enrolling as soon as possible, veterans can gain access to medical care at any VA facility and obtain up to 5 years of cost-free care for service-connected conditions.

Prior to the online system, enrollment in the VA health care programs could take up to 10 days, but the new process reduces the time down to 3 days. So far, the program is already established at Camp Shelby in Mississippi and will be implemented at the other 60 demobilization sites across the nation.

Filing for your benefits as a veteran is important to do as soon as possible to avoid delaying the resolution of your claims. Especially when applying for veterans’ disability benefits, the sooner you apply the less time you may spend waiting for decisions and processing of your forms. For help with your veterans’ disability claim, seek help from a South Florida veterans’ disability attorney.
