October 11, 2010 - Many veterans complain about the distance they have to travel in order to receive health care from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Because of this, the VA has been opening clinics specializing in certain areas of expertise. The latest specialty clinic will be located in Corpus Christi, TX. This clinic will offer specialized services in:
The clinic will open next year and the building will measure 32,950 square feet. The developer will own the building and will lease it to the government for $1 million a year. Any veteran eligible for VA benefits can receive outpatient services from the clinic. In addition to the medical services the clinic offers, it will also provide laboratory, testing, and pharmacy services. Providing solely outpatient services, however, requires any veteran needing a hospital stay to travel to another VA medical center.
Requiring veterans to drive to distances to receive such outpatient services quickly becomes a burden on many veterans and their families. Many times, trips for these types of services take multiple days to complete.
The Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System covers veterans requiring health care over 20 counties south of San Antonio. There are thousands of veterans not enrolled in the VA health care system. Maybe bringing the health care to them will get more veterans the help they need.
Soldiers can return home with a number of conditions, injuries, and aggravated preexisting conditions. If you believe you have a service-connected physical or psychological injury you may be entitled to Veterans’ Disability Compensation.
