The center is the result of years of lobbying by many veterans advocates and a County Judge, who recognized a need for quality mental healthcare services for veterans in Okaloosa. According to a local newspaper, Judge Patt Maney, a former brigadier general in the Army Reserve, saw "a number of veterans in his courtroom who could only get the services they needed if a veterans center opened in the area."
Construction on the center is expected to begin soon.
