No Veteran Dies Alone Program Provides Solace for Passing U.S. Veterans

According to an article on USNavySeals.com, “No Veteran Dies Alone” keeps with the mission President Lincoln gave this country, which was “care for him who shall have borne the battle.” Ultimately, this means efforts are in place by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to make sure no U.S. veteran will die a lonely death.

Thousands of veterans and veterans with disabilities spend their last years alone. For those veterans who spend those last minutes in a VA hospital, the “No Veteran Dies Alone” program is attempting to make that time as peaceful as possible.

Approximately 1,800 U.S veterans die in VA clinics and hospitals every day. “No Veteran Dies Alone” is an end-of-life-program operating within the VA’s walls, and makes a “conscious effort” to make sure someone is with veterans in their last minutes, by their side and holding their hand as they pass.

The program is staffed completely by volunteers who feel they are doing nothing “extraordinary.” Instead, many feel they are the ones being rewarded because they find it as a blessing to sit aside a passing veteran to give them comfort and remind them they have not nor never will be forgotten.

If you are a disabled veteran who has been denied disability compensation or have not yet applied for benefits from the VA, a South Florida disability attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg is ready to help.
