Obama Pledges Unparalleled Support For Military Families

January 26, 2011 - When President Obama asked soldiers deployed to Afghanistan what the country could do to help them, the unanimous response was to take care of their families back home. Taking care of soldiers' families allows those deployed soldiers to focus on their jobs at hand. In response to this request, President Obama pledged "an unprecedented commitment to America's military families."

Among many other benefits, President Obama's pledge to help America's military families includes:

  • College aid;
  • Health care; and
  • Employment counseling.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been going on for years and President Obama sees his pledge as this country giving veterans and their families the gratitude they are owed. According to President Obama, it is a matter of national security to take care of the families of our deployed soldiers. Only by securing the families can soldiers operate at the efficiency needed during their deployment.

President Obama's pledge to military families includes 50 separate commitments. Those commitments are specially designed to offer up a voice to military families so they can be heard by the decision makers. Some of the programs are already in progress, but they will focus on:

  • Child care;
  • Education;
  • Mental health issues;
  • Homelessness among veterans; and
  • Protection from predatory lending.

As added support, many members of President Obama's cabinet have pledged their help to the programs to ensure their survival. The more help available, the healthier and more stable military families will remain. A more stable family means a more stable soldier.
