It is no secret that obesity is the driver of many of our country's diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension, but now a recent study reveals that people who are obese may experience a heart attack a decade sooner than "normal" weight people.
The study involved a type of heart attack called non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. This type of heart attack always requires hospitalization and has an in-hospital fatality rate of about 10 per cent, and about 20 per cent over the next six months. They are not trivial events. They account for a leading cause of patients to lose time away from work and actually seek medical disability.
