Older Women and the Link Between Breast Cancer & Cardiovascular Diseases

A severe health condition could result in an individual being unable to work. This may lead to filing a claim for Social Security disability benefits.

In a report from Health Day, a new study finds that older women with breast cancer are more likely to die not from that but from cardiovascular diseases.

This was discovered after a research of more than 60,000 women in the U.S., who were 66 years and older and had been diagnosed with breast cancer. These patients were also followed for 12 years and the results were that almost half of them were still alive at the end of this timeframe.

Those who had died at the end of the 12 year follow-up were in most cases a result of a cardiovascular disease. The average age of death was 83 years old.

For those who did die as a result of breast cancer, certain factors seemed to contribute such as those with a high tumor grade and those who had been diagnosed at a younger age.

Experts point out that while cancer can be fatal; there are other medical conditions that if left untreated, could be the cause of death.
