When an individual is diagnosed with a medical condition, such as ovarian cancer that causes them to be disabled, Social Security disability benefits can help to offset the financial burden of being unable to work.
Medline Plus reports that according to a new study, ovarian cancer screening has only a slight impact in the reduction of deaths.
This study was published Dec. 13 in the online journal of Cancer. Researchers urge for other strategies to be sought such as better preventative measures and earlier treatment, until better tests are developed.
It was also found that the slower growing types of ovarian cancers were the ones more likely to be detected in a screening test, as opposed to the more aggressive types. Testing for ovarian cancer was found to decrease the chances of death by just 11%.
These findings seem to support what many experts have already believed about early stages of ovarian cancer. Experts have suggested that the early stage could last for a lengthy amount of time, whereas the more advanced stage could lead to rapid spreading.
