Paper Checks for Social Security Disability to Be Phased Out by March 2013

Social Security disability benefits
may be available if your medical condition prevents you from working and has lasted or is expected to last for 12 months or more.

A press release from the Social Security Administration reports that paper checks for Social Security disability will be phased out by March 1, 2013.

In a new campaign, "No Check - Go Direct," former Star Trek stars Patty Duke and George Takei are helping spread the word on the benefits of direct deposit for Social Security disability payments.

Some of the benefits for paperless payments include:

  • safety;
  • reliability;
  • can't get lost;
  • provide savings to taxpayers;
  • helpful to the environment; and
  • available immediately on payment date.

Claimants who apply for Social Security disability benefits on or after May 1, 2011 will begin to receive their payments electronically. Those who have been receiving paper checks will be required to switch to direct deposit by March 1, 2013.

For help with your application or to appeal a claim that has been denied, you should consult with a Miami Gardens Social Security disability attorney. They can assist you with every aspect of your claim, including the complicated paperwork.
