Pat Tillman sacrificed everything for his country and his willingness to walk away from a very lucrative NFL career to fight for our freedom has made him a legend. Pat Tillman played college football at Arizona State University, and to honor his sacrifice, the college is naming their new veterans center after him.
The Pat Tillman Veterans Center (PTVC) will be located on ASU's Tempe campus and will span over 3,300 square feet. The PTVC will serve as a "single point of contact" for all veterans attending ASU as well as their dependents. Functionally, it is designed to blend student support and academic services together so as to make transitioning from the military to student life as smooth as possible.
To that end, the center will provide: ·
help with veterans benefits, to include veterans disability information; ·
information on deployments; ·
referrals to numerous services; and
·
a central location for social activities and study groups. Many veterans transitioning to college from the military face challenges distinctive to their group and outside the "normal" school challenges faced by the general student body. The PTVC will help ASU address and meet many of those challenges by providing veterans with a central location in which they can find a like-minded and understanding community.
There are almost 1,400 veterans and 387 veteran dependents enrolled at ASU. The school has been celebrated for being so supportive of the veteran-student community, and was chosen as one of the few locations where the VA launched VetSuccess on Campus, one of their pilot programs.
If you are a disabled veteran who has been denied disability compensation or have not yet applied for benefits from the VA, a South Florida disability attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg is ready to help. To learn if you are entitled to certain programs and benefits
