Patients Undergoing Angioplasty at Risk of Being Readmitted to Hospital

According to USA Today, patients who undergo angioplasty are at risk of being readmitted to a hospital. If a severe heart condition is preventing you from returning to work, then you could be eligible to receive Social Security disability benefits.

A new study finds that within 30 days of having angioplasty or a stent placement performed on them, 1 in 10 individuals will need to return to the hospital; however, another report finds that this risk exists even 3 years after having the procedure done.

The results of this study demonstrate the importance of identifying and treating those patients who are at the highest risk for readmission. Not only because of the potential to be sent back to the hospital but their risk of death within a year was also increased.

Those at the greatest risk include women who have chest pain and those individuals who carry Medicare insurance.
