Potential New Treatment Option for Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson's disease
, a disorder that affects the body's motor functions, can lead to a number of other physical or psychological difficulties. Those who suffer from a severe form of Parkinson's disease and are unable to work may find that Social Security disability benefits can help off-set the financial difficulties associated with the diagnosis.

Phase 2 of a gene therapy, NLX-P101, for treatment of Parkinson's disease has been shown to be successful.
This investigational gene therapy showed significant improvements to patients who participated. As much as 75% of the patients responded positively. In addition, it was without any serious adverse reactions.

This type of therapy is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure that does not require general anesthesia or the implanting of a medical device in the patient's brain. With some patients finding current medications for Parkinson's disease not helpful, this could prove to be a viable option.

This increases the potential of NLX-P101 becoming a successful type of therapy for patients with Parkinson's disease; however, further clinical trials will need to be conducted to determine the long-term success.

The diagnosis of Parkinson's disease can be difficult to hear. Patients are left to sometimes wonder how they are going to take care of themselves, particularly if their condition makes it impossible to work. Contact a Social Security disability attorney who can evaluate your case to determine if you qualify for Social Security disability benefits.
