Radiation after Breast Cancer Surgery Can Reduce Rate of Recurrence

In a report from Med Page Today, radiation after breast cancer surgery is found to reduce the rate of recurrence. When recovery from a severe medical condition prevents an individual from returning to work for several months, then long-term disability benefits could be available.

The study, performed by the Early Breast Cancer Trialists' Collaborative Group, looked at over 10,000 cases of women diagnosed with breast cancer. It was found that when radiation therapy followed surgery, the chance of recurrence within 10 years went from 35% to 19.3%. In addition, the risk of recurrence within 15 years was decreased by 3.8%.

Despite surgery, there's always the potential for some of the tumor to be left behind, which is where radiation can help
; however, even with these positive findings, it should be noted that there haven't been any studies done on the long-term outcome of this.

Researchers point out that radiation is a beneficial part of a treatment plan when it comes to breast cancer. If you've been diagnosed with breast cancer and would like to know if you qualify for disability benefits, you should seek legal counsel.

By speaking to a Miami Gardens long-term disability lawyer you can learn not only if you qualify but you can receive assistance in the claims process. This includes the completion of paperwork and providing any documentation that's necessary to prove your medical condition.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
