After an individual has been diagnosed with a severe medical condition that makes it impossible for them to work they may have to turn to other sources of financial support. If you are unable to work for a lengthy period of time, you may be entitled to receive long-term disability benefits.
According to a new study being reported by the
Doctor's Lounge, a person's exposure to radiation is reduced when the pelvis is bypassed during a
blood clot scan.
Scanning for blood clots does expose patients to levels of radiation, but by skipping the pelvic area, researchers find that not only is the level of radiation reduced but it doesn't interfere with a proper diagnosis.
Dangerous blood clots, such as venous thromboembolism, which form in the legs and can break off and travel to the lungs, are detected through imaging tests. The researchers for this particular study found that including the pelvis in the scan doesn't aid in diagnosis.
They hope that this finding will encourage more doctors to bypass the pelvic area in an effort to lower the exposure to radiation. However some experts indicate these are just preliminary findings and that more research may be necessary.
