The Boston Red Sox Foundation is partnering with Massachusetts General Hospital to start a $6 million program that will assist veterans who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The program was conceived after officials and team members from the Red Sox visited wounded troops at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. After meeting disabled servicemen and women who had returned from the battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan, the team coordinated meetings with the VA and Massachusetts General to collaborate on the "Home Base Program."
Both veterans and their family members will have access to psychiatrists and VA doctors at a clinic in the hospital. The clinic will provide support to the veterans and their families who are affected by PTSD.
The Red Sox Foundation and the Hospital have each committed to raising $3 million for the clinic over the next three years.
